Энтони Эрвин из команды США стал самым возрастным олимпийским чемпионом в истории плавания
Американский пловец Энтони Эрвин одержал поистине историческую победу в финальном заплыве на дистанции 50 метров вольным стилем на Олимпийских Играх 2016 в Рио-де-Жанейро.
В решающем старте представитель олимпийской сборной США по плаванию показал великолепный результат – 21.40 сек (50m freestyle). Эту золотую медаль спортсмен завоевал в возрасте 35 лет и 79 дней, что делает его самым возрастным олимпийским чемпионом в истории плавания.
Вторым в заплыве финишировал действующий чемпион мира и победитель Олимпиады в Лондоне-2012 на этой дистанции француз Флоран Маноду, отставший от Эрвина всего на одну сотую секунды (21.41 сек). Бронзовая медаль досталась ещё одному титулованному пловцу из команды США Натану Эдриану (21.49 сек).
Для Энтони Эрвина это уже второе золото на Играх в Рио-2016, он несколькими днями ранее в составе команды США стал победителем в эстафете 4х 100 метров вольным стилем.
Ранее в своей карьере Эрвин один раз становился золотым призёром Олимпиады – это было 16 лет назад на Играх в Сиднее-2000. Тогда на первую ступеньку пьедестала одновременно поднялись Энтони Эрвин и Гарри Холл младший, оба из США, показав на дистанции 50 м вольным стилем 21.98 секунды. А вскоре после той победы молодой спортсмен надолго ушёл из большого спорта, играл в рок-группе, путешествовал по миру, ведя зачастую совсем не спортивный образ жизни.
К плаванию Энтони Эрвин вернулся лишь в 2011 году, чтобы квалифицироваться на Олимпийские Игры в Лондоне-2012, куда он в итоге поехал, и на удивление многих даже попал на 50 м вольным стилем в финал, но остался без медали.
И вот, для 35-летнего американского пловца на Олимпийских Играх 2016 в Рио-де-Жанейро настал поистине звёздный час в карьере.
Энтони Эрвин в 35-летнем возрасте установил личный рекорд на дистанции 50 м вольным стилем (21.40 sec), стал самым возрастным олимпийским чемпионом в плавании, вписав себя в историю олимпийской команды США, как атлет, повторивший свой же золотой успех спустя 16 лет.

1. Анке, Ханнелоре – Hannelore Anke is a retired German swimmer who competed for East Germany in the 1970s. She had her best achievements in the 100 m breaststroke and 4 ×100 m medley relay, in these two events she won gold medals at the 1976 Summer Olympics and 1975 World Aquatics Championships, and set two world records. In 1975, she won a world title in the 100 m breaststroke. She was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale, officials from the East German team have later admitted that they administered performance enchancing drugs to Hannelore Anke during her career
2. Аньель, Янник – Yannick Agnel is a French former competitive swimmer who specializes in freestyle events, and is a three-time Olympic medalist. In his Olympic debut at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he won gold in the 200-meter freestyle, gold in the 4×100-meter freestyle relay, and silver in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay. He is the current world record holder in the 400-meter freestyle, the European record holder in the 800-meter freestyle, Agnels success have earned him Swimming Worlds European Swimmer of the Year award in 2012. Agnel was born in Nîmes in 1992, the son of a nurse and he was named after French tennis player Yannick Noah. Agnel began swimming at the age of eight after a neighbor spotted his talent and he later integrated Skema Business School to study oceanography. At the 2009 European Junior Swimming Championships, Agnel won the 200- and he was also a member of the 4×200-meter freestyle relay that won gold ahead of Russia and Italy. In April 2010, Agnel set the French record in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1,46.35 to beat Amaury Leveauxs record of 1,46.54. In June 2010, he improved his record in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1,46.30, at the 2010 European Aquatics Championships, Agnel won gold in the 400-meter freestyle setting a new French and championships record. Agnel then combined with Fabien Gilot, William Meynard, and Alain Bernard in the 4×100-meter freestyle relay to finish second behind Russia, as the second leg, Agnel had a 48.23 split. As the leadoff leg in the 4×200 m freestyle relay, Agnel broke his own French record in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1,45.83. Agnel, with Clement Lefert, Antton Haramboure, and Jérémy Stravius finished in place in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay behind Russia. At the 2011 World Aquatics Championships in Shanghai, Agnel competed in three events, in his first event, the 400-meter freestyle, Agnel finished in 6th place with a time of 3,45.24. In his second event, the 200-meter freestyle, Agnel finished in place with a time of 1,44.99. Agnel won his medal of the competition, a silver. Teaming with Grégory Mallet, Jérémy Stravius, and Fabien Gilot, their team had a time of 7,04.81. The United States finished 1st with a time of 7,02.67, at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Agnel won a total of three medals, two golds and one silver. In his first event, Agnel anchored a come-from-behind effort in the 4×100-meter freestyle relay to win gold with Amaury Leveaux, Fabien Gilot, and Clément Lefert. Diving in with a 0.55 s deficit, Agnel was able to cut that down to a 0.30 s deficit at the 350-meter mark

She competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics in the 100 m and 200 m butterfly and 4 ×100 m medley relay and she won a bronze medal in this event at the 1973 World Aquatics Championships. In 1972 she twice broke the record in the 100 m fly. After retiring from competition she worked as a coach and a high school teacher. In 1989 she was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame
4. Ауден, Виллемейнтье ден – Willemijntje den Ouden was a competitive swimmer from the Netherlands, who held the 100-meter freestyle world record for nearly 23 years, from 1933 to 1956. Den Ouden was a daughter of Willemijntje Kuipers and Antonius Victor Jozephus den Ouden, an owner in Rotterdam. A year later, Den Ouden came in the limelight when she participated at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. In the series, she broke the Olympic record on the 100 m. These accomplishments attracted wide attention since as a 14-year old she was also the youngest Olympic participant, four years later at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, she was widely favored to win the same race, but came in fourth place in the final. She did win the medal in the womens 4 ×100 m freestyle relay with her compatriots Tini Wagner, Rie Mastenbroek. However, the diminutive Den Ouden -she reached 1.55 m - was far more successful between these two Olympic games. On July 9,1933 in Antwerp, she broke Helene Madisons two-year-old world record on the 100 m freestyle, setting it at 1,06.0. She would improve on this three times, swimming 1,04.8 in April 1934 and finally reaching 1,04.6 on 27 February 1936 in Amsterdam. This record would last until 1956 when it was broken twice within ten days by Dawn Fraser and Cocky Gastelaars, thus, she held the world record for the top event in swimming for an unequalled 22 years and 8 months. Den Ouden further broke the records on the 200 m freestyle, the 400 m freestyle, and the now defunct distances of 100 yd,150 yd,220 yd,300 yd,400 yd,300 m. She was also the anchor swimmer for the Dutch relay teams that broke the 4 ×100 m freestyle record in 1934. On February 4,1934, she became the first woman to swim 100 yards in under a minute, in 1935 she held all 10 world-records freestyle swimming for 500 m and shorter simultaneously. She retired from swimming in 1938, at the age of 20. She set her eyes on a career and in 1939 she was cast in the Belgian movie Van het een komt het ander. However the outbreak of the Second World War stopped the production, most if not all of her medals and prizes were lost in the burning rubble. Den Ouden herself fled to England, where in October 1943 she married Staffan Broms, the couple moved to Saltsjöbaden in Sweden after the wedding, but the marriage didnt last and in 1946 Den Ouden returned to Rotterdam. She married twice more, in November 1953 to Wicher Hooite Jager and her last marriage only lasted half a year

She became the first Spanish woman to win an Olympic swimming gold medal when she won gold in the 200-meter butterfly at the 2016 Summer Olympics and she currently holds five world records in short course events. She achieved the 2nd place in 400 m individual medley in the 2007 European SC Championship with 4,31.06 and she also reached the 8th place in the 400 m individual medley. In December 2010 she won three medals and a silver medal in the FINA Short Course World Championship. In August 2012 Belmonte won two medals at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, one in 200m butterfly and another one in 800m freestyle. She became the first Spanish swimmer to win two Olympic medals, Belmonte posted a 7,59.34 in the 800 SCM Freestyle to become the first woman to ever break 8,00. This was her first freestyle world record, Belmonte won four individual gold medals and broke two world records, Belmonte won gold in the womens 200m butterfly in Rio. She clocked in at 2,04.85, just 3 hundredths of a second ahead of the silver medalist, Australia swimmer Madeline Grove and she was the first Spanish female swimmer to become an Olympic champion
7. Беренс, Рики – Richard Ricky Berens is an American former competition swimmer, two-time Olympic gold medalist, world champion, and current world record-holder. As a member of the U. S. national team and he competed in the 4×100-meter and 4×200-meter freestyle relay events, as well as the individual 200-meter freestyle at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Berens was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, after graduating from South Mecklenburg High School, he attended the University of Texas at Austin, and swam for coach Eddie Reeses Texas Longhorns swimming and diving team 2007 to 2010. He graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in finance in 2010. At the 2007 Pan American Games, Berens won a medal in the 4×100-meter medley relay. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Berens won the medal in the mens 4×200-meter freestyle relay with Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte. Berens swam the third leg in a split time of 1,46.29. Berens was the member of the finals team to swim in the preliminary heats, posting a time of 1,45.47, just faster than Klete Kellers 1,45.51. Berens swam the third leg of the 4×100-meter freestyle preliminaries at the 2009 World Championships in Rome, Berens also swam in both the preliminaries and final of the 4×200-meter freestyle, which won gold. In the final, Berens swam the second leg in 1,44.13, Berens was also a part of the winning U. S. 4×200-meter freestyle relay teams at the 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships and the 2011 World Championships. At the 2011 Duel in the Pool, a short course meet featuring the United States and European All-Stars, at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Berens again won a gold medal in the mens 4×200-meter freestyle relay, together with Ryan Lochte, Conor Dwyer and Michael Phelps. Berens swam the third leg for the U. S. team in 1,45.27. He also won a medal as part of the second-place U. S. team for the mens 4×100-meter freestyle relay. After the final of the 4×200-meter event, Berens stated that he would retire from swimming following the Olympics. After seven weeks, Berens came out of retirement and returned to the swimming stage, at the 2013 American Short Course Championships, he broke the American record in the 200-yard freestyle, taking his split from the 500-yard freestyle. Swimming the anchor leg, Berens recorded a split of 1,45.39, in November 2013, Berens retired for a second time. In 2008, Berens was interviewed on The Today Show in Beijing after winning gold in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay, in 2009 he made an appearance on The Tyra Banks Show, poking fun at himself after a swimsuit malfunction at the 2009 World Championships. In 2011, Berens was featured in a print advertisement for Eukanuba that ran in Mens Journal magazine, Berens was also featured in a print advertisement for a Casio watch, which ran in the December 2011 issue of Details magazine
8. Бернар, Ален – Alain Bernard is a former French swimmer from Aubagne, Bouches-du-Rhône. Bernard won a total of four medals at two Olympic Games and he also won numerous medals at the World Championships and European Championships. Bernard formerly held the record for the 50 metres freestyle. Bernard has a tattoo on his right hip. Bernard won the European Championships 2008100 m freestyle final in a new record time of 47.50 seconds on 22 March 2008. He had already beaten the record the previous day, finishing in 47.60 seconds in the semi-finals. On 23 March 2008 Bernard broke Eamon Sullivans 50 m freestyle record in the semi-finals of the same championships. Bernard would go on to win the 50m freesyle final in 21.66 seconds, but Bernards 21. 50-second world record only stood for four days, it was reclaimed by Eamon Sullivan. At the French national championships, Bernard qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing in the 50 m freestyle and 100 m freestyle, before the 4×100 m freestyle relay, Bernard taunted the American swim team. Bernard claimed to a newspaper that he and his French teammates, thats what we came here for. But the French team ended up in place behind the American team by.08 seconds. The close defeat left Bernard wounded, according to his coach, however, he rebounded to win the mens 100 metres freestyle gold medal. Bernard had one day set a new 100 metres freestyle long course world record of 47.20 s in the semi-finals. Bernard became only the second Frenchman to win an Olympic gold medal in swimming, after Jean Boiteux and he was in the French 4 ×100 m freestyle relay team in the heats at the Olympics, but was not included in the team for the final. France won the event which made Bernard a two-time Olympic gold medalist and he announced his official retirement from swimming shortly after the 2012 Olympic Games. Bernard was chosen as the 2008 LÉquipe Champion of Champions by LÉquipe and he was also chosen as the 2008 RTL Champion of Champions by RTL, a French commercial radio network. This annual sports award was inaugurated in 2008, on 1 January 2013, Bernard was made an Officer of the French National Order of Merit. The 100m long course time was not admissible as a record because it was swum in a non-approved swimsuit
